Practice tour
In house laboratory
The practice is fully equipped with an extensive range of laboratory equipment that allows us to run blood samples immediately with results available within 5-10 minutes. We are therefore able to evaluate, diagnose and manage sick and critically ill patients more promptly and effectively at any time of day or night.
Biochemistry, Haematology, Electrolyte, Hormone and Blood Gas analysers allow us to make a comprehensive assessment of sick and critically ill patients and monitor their response to treatment. In addition we are able to run pre-anaesthetic profiles as risk assessments for animals undergoing surgical procedures and general health screens of elderly patients or patients on long term drug therapy.
Our Blood Gas analyser is our latest addition and allows us to rapidly assess the status of our most critically ill patients who may require very specific treatments to save their lives. Another recent addition is a hormone assay analyser which allows us to diagnose and monitor the common endocrine diseases presented to us.
Microscope- We have a binocular microscope in the practice which is used to perform routine dermatological examinations for skin parasites, fungi and yeasts. We also perform in-house cytology on specially stained tissue, fluid and blood smears obtained from our patients. This latter applications is invaluable in assessing our critically ill patients and making potentially life saving diagnoses early in the course of a disease.
Operating theatre
We have a seperate operating theatre in the practice allowing us to maintain a clean and quiet operating environment, self sufficient from the rest of the practice.
Consulting rooms
During normal consulting hours our team of vets run up to 3 rooms at any one time. This allows us to keep your waiting time to a minimum.
We are very proud here at HDB of seeing most of our clients within ten minutes of their arrival. This is not only good from your perspective, importantly the stress of our patients is kept as low as possible - however hard we try, we know some of our patients would just rather be elsewhere!
Large animal & companion animal pharmacies
We run two well stocked pharmacies enabling us to cater for most prescriptions and medications while you are with us. Excellent connections with our stockists also allow us to have most non-stock items delivered within 24 hours.
Reception
Radiography
All our normal X-rays are taken in this room. We routinely take images of pets from 60kg Great Danes to 30gm budgies. We use a wide range of techniques to obtain best images of bones and all the internal organs.
Kennels
We use Shor-Line kennels in the practice for hospitalised and day care patients. These kennels are made in stainless steel and are insulated. This allows us to maintain high levels of cleanliness and comfort for our patients whether they are in for a day or hospitalized for a week. Our dedicated nurses provide lots of TLC as well as monitoring patients treatments and general well being. We feel it is important for our patients to have human contact whilst they are with us and our nurses are more than willing to give friendly pats and cuddles.
