Endoscopy
We are lucky enough to have 5 endoscopes of assorted diameters and lengths in use in the practice and routinely carry out a range of endoscopic investigations from rhinoscopy and cystoscopy to gastroscopy and bronchoscopy.
We have a number of specifically designed instruments that can be passed through a biopsy channel on the scopes to obtain biopsies, diagnostic washes or remove foreign bodies.
We recently expanded our endoscopy service with the arrival of a new Olympus purpose built veterinary gastroscope. This scope has a narrow diameter of 7.9mm and allows us to perform more thorough examinations of the stomach and small intestine of cats as well as any size of dog. This scope also allows bronchoscopy and examinations of the airways of our largest canine patients, with cats and smaller dogs being scoped with our purpose built 3.7mm bronchoscope.
Many chronic conditions of the upper and lower respiratory tracts, gastrointestinal tract and lower urinary tracts require endoscopy and endoscopic biopsies to get a diagnosis. Since equipping the practice with our range of scopes we are able to work most cases through to a diagnosis and get them on to the appropriate treatment.
